VEGETABLE PLOTS: Seed lettuce, broad beans, peas, early cabbage (coração de boi), garlic, lupins. On seed beds/hot beds, seed lettuce, beets, onions, turnip, radish.

FIELDS: Seed oats, rye, wheat and barley. Organically fertilize fruit orchards.

VINEYARDS/ TREES/ PRUNING/ GRAFTING: Continue with olive harvest. Manure fruit orchards with the waxing moon. Prune cold resistant trees with waning moon. Plant cherry, peach, pear and apple trees. Plant kiwis from now through to February.

Harvest kiwis before any frost even if unripe, if kept in a cool dry place they will keep for up to six months. Can start to eat tangerines through to March.

REMARKS: Traditionally taste your wine and eat chestnuts on 11th November — Dia de São Martinho, (Antes de São Martinho não presta o vinho!)

Distil the grape pulp left over from wine making with your own still (alambique) or take to local distillery to make 'aguardente'/ bagaço.

Continue picking the fruits of the wild strawberry tree, keep in a covered barrel add 1 part water to 5 parts fruit and stir the pulp every few days, to be distilled end of January at local distillery or in 'alambique' at home to make the famous drink 'medronho'.
